Rainbow Centre for Tsunami Victimized Children

The Rainbow Centre Bus

The Rainbow Centre is delighted to have been the recipient of a bus donated by a Rotary International Partnership in December 2007. (The Rotary Club of Colombo, Rotary District 9450 Western Australia, Rotary Vectis Village D1110 Tsunami Fund, the International Tennis Fellowship of Rotarians and the Rotary Club Zagreb Centra, Croatia.) The Rainbow Centre bus continues to provide an indispensible service for more than 100 children. It leaves the Centre in Bentota at 7.00am to collect the children living in Aluthgama and Beruwala and take them to mainstream school. At the same time, it picks up the children coming back to the Rainbow Centre Nursery, Pre-School and Day School. At 11.30am it takes pre-schoolers back from the Centre to their homes in Aluthgama. It then goes on to pick up children who have been in mainstream school to bring them back to the Centre for lunch and afternoon tuition and support. At two o’clock it picks up older mainstream school children and brings them back to the Centre to eat and study. At 5.30pm all the children go back on to the bus to be taken to their homes. The bus is returned to the Centre later that evening its work done for that day. The Rainbow Centre depends heavily on the bus to carry out its work and is extremely grateful for this generous donation.
