Rtns Mahanama and his wife and myself visited Maskeiya on 18th June. We started at 4.30 am and returned by 7.30pm - 15 hours one day trip. We met up with PP Bala Murugiah who accompanied us un the visit to TLV and the Schools.
It was really fantastic to see the Tea Leaf school in session and later in the afternoon to see the CEP programme being conducted in 2 of the 24 schools. These kids are doing a really fabulous job, and TLV is really changing life for the children who follow there programme. The students are going out once a week every Wednesday to 24 Government Schools and conducting 2 hours of English to tiny tots in these schools where there are absolutely no English speaking teachers and the whole benefit is being magnified multifold. It seems like a superb model to emulate in other places too, and cost is very little because it is all student driven and a bit like a pyramid scheme. We were really astonished to see what a powerful reach this programme is having and I am preparing a more detailed report with pictures/video clips and will circulate in due course.
Our very own Rtn Mahanama - wow what a wonderful and talented person, he delivered and impromptu motivational talk to the senior team and it was superb to see the positive energy he created.
We also verified the 40 chairs from Maskeliya have been delivered, the Apha Chairs have all been all delivered and 500 copies course books have been delivered balance quantity is being delivered within this week.
