Beach Cleanup
MEGA BEACH CLEANUP AT WELLAWATTE KINROSS BEACH ON SUNDAY 19th February 2012
The Rotary Club of Colombo in association with one Rotaract Club and four Interact Clubs that come under the Rotary Club of Colombo organised a very successful Mega Beach clean up at the Wellawatte Kinross beach on Sunday the 19th of February 2012 from 7.30 am to 10.00 am. The Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors joined hands to be a part of this worthy project. The 37 volunteers were able to collect a truck load of garbage from the beach. The Colombo Municipal Council arranged a garbage collection truck to collect the garbage. The beach clean up has resulted in the Wellawatte Kinross beach becoming a clean and pleasant environment for people to enjoy the beach.
This project was coordinated and organised as a joint project between 6 clubs, namely the Rotary Club of Colombo, Rotaract Club of Colombo Regent, Interact Clubs of Bishops Collage, Muslim Ladies Collage, Royal Collage and Stafford International School. Rotarian Rainer Fernando was the Chairperson for the project.
Breakfast was arranged for the participants and the volunteers were provided with garbage collection bags and rubber gloves.
