Another Heart Surgery AC Peter


Samudh Dinuwara Wijayasiri Gunawardhar, 2 ½ years, male, Sri Lanka, referred by Rotary Club of Colombo underwent successful open heart surgery today (3 June 2015) at Fortis-Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi (India) under Rotary ‘Gift of Life’ project.

Rotary International President Elect Rtn KR Ravindran belongs to RC Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Dinal Peiris, Managing Director, Lanka Aluminium Industries PLC, met the  cost of air travel, pocket money etc for the child/parents.  Rtn Dinal also belongs to RC Colombo.  Mr Gamini Nanayakkara   and Ms Jamie coordinated. 

Doctor Thenabadu (Sri Lanka) identified that the child was suffering from congenital heart disease – TOF.

According to Rotary Club of Colombo, Samudh Dinuwara is the only child in the family. His father is an Air force soldier getting an average income of about 260 Dollars per month. He is the only earning member in the family and he has the responsibility of looking after his own parents.

Samudh and his parents (Mr Oshan Wijesiri and Mrs Malitha Nammuni) reached Delhi from Colombo in the evening hours of 26th May 2015 by Srilankan Airlines. The child was admitted to hospital on 28 May 2015.

The child is under the good care of Dr KS Iyer, the renowned paediatric cardiac surgeon of India.

The Father of the child understands English and can communicate a little. Therefore interpreters are not required.   If everything goes well,  the child and his parents will return to Sri Lanka on 14 June 2015 after recuperation.
